Science week in 5C
Thursday 25th May 2017
This week in school we have enjoyed a range of exciting activities. In the classroom, we have conducted many experiments such as; the ‘Floating Paper Clip’ experiment, ‘Rainbow Skittles’ experiment, the ‘Walking Water’ experiment and the ‘Balloon Rocket’ experiment.
On Monday we were lucky enough to see a number of African animals in school (e.g. snakes, a chameleonand a meerkat).
Additionally, we researched a number of scientists who have changed the world of science!
We hope you enjoy looking at some of our pictures below!

Classifying liquorice allsorts for Science!
Recently, we have been learning about how to classify animals using classification keys. We did such a good job that our teachers gave us the challenge to make a classification key for a group of liquorice allsorts.
You will be able to have a go at our classification keys on Thursday’s exhibition but here are some pictures showing us learning…

Outdoor Learning Day
On Thursday 18th May 2017, our school took part in the national Outdoor Learning Day. Year 3 researched different types of birds and their diets. We then went outside and made a bird feeder using floral wire and string. We placed cheese, chopped apples and cheerios on the wire before bending it to form a circle. Finally, we tied string to it ready to hang in our gardens.
Did you know that the study of birds is called Ornithology?
For homework this week we will be becoming ornithologists… Our job is to observe our bird feeders and we look forward to sharing facts and information on the types of birds that have visited.

How do you blow up a balloon without using your breath?
Today, in Year 4, we have been investigating how to inflate a balloon without using our breath. We had lots of ideas including using a balloon pump, filling it with water and putting popping candy inside the balloon with a fizzy drink.
To find out how we managed to inflate the balloons, come along to the science exhibition on Thursday in the hall after school…
Here are some pictures to get you thinking…
