All things exciting and amazing in Year 4…

It’s been a busy half term in Year 4 and we hope you enjoy reading about it.

In our literacy lessons, we have really enjoyed reading Oliver and the Seawigs by Philip Reeve.  The story is about Oliver’s journey to find his lost parents and on his way, he meets a mermaid called Iris, an albatross called Mr Culpepper and a talking island called Cliff.  Once we finished reading Oliver and the Seawigs, we moved on to our next book, Jemmy Button by Jennifer Uman and Valerio Vidali.  We will keep you updated about this exciting new adventure.

We have been having interesting music lessons with Mr S (from Havering Music School) and right now we are learning how to play the mini steel pan.

In our history lessons, we have been learning about The Shang Dynasty of China, which we have linked to our PE lessons.  We have taken on the role of warriors, craftsmen and farmers and created movements to music.  In art, we have been sketching and painting our own Ming vase designs. You can see them hanging up in our classrooms.

In computing, we have started to think about making a new educational game in Scratch with a partner.  We have been using coding blocks to create and move our characters.

In science, we made circuits using batteries, wires with crocodile clips, bulbs, a motor and a buzzer.  We learnt how to use two different types of switches within our circuits.  We also learnt about the components of a plug.  It was an amazing topic to learn about!

Come back and find out more about the brilliant activities after half term.

Havering Water Polo Champions for the fifth time!

Last Wednesday, St Edward’s Water Polo team won the Havering Water Polo Tournament for the fifth year running.  Our A and B teams competed against six other teams, including Ardleigh Green, Engayne and Parsonage Farm Primary Schools.  By the final match all the other schools had been defeated.  Our A team beat our B team 6:2  to win the championship once again.

Sadly, Water Polo is not included in this year’s London Youth Games, so our team will not be representing Havering at Crystal Palace.

Digital leader – Daniel

My name is Daniel, I am 10 years old. I am a digital leader so I work with all different types of technology like IPads, phones, computers and laptops. We are following different subjects called modules; they are mini lessons that we do every session. We are very lucky to be supported by http://www.childnet.com/new-for-schools/childnet-digital-leaders-programme/ how provide the modules and different  scenario. My dream is to be a footballer⚽️ And play for Arsenal football club who I support. The reason why I wanted to be a digital leader is because I’ve been hacked on a game and I was devastated so I don’t want it to happen to other people. I love working on computers and technology, so out of all the jobs there were to choose I knew digital leading was the right thing to choose. Thank you for reading goodbye!
