Last week, Year 3 went on a very exciting trip to Colchester Zoo. We learned a lot about different creatures, particularly those that live in the rainforest.
The children enjoyed seeing the vast array of animals and the habitats that have been created for them, from the ant colony and the creepy-crawlies in the Discovery Centre…
…to the elephant paddock and the tiger enclosure (feeding time was not for the faint-hearted).
It was a great day out. Many thanks to all of the volunteers who gave up their time to come with us!
St Edward’s has been celebrating a belated World Book Day with a visit from Tolu who showed us his new book, The Frog and his Dancing Shoes, and performed it for us.
Year 3 have been sharing their favourite books and characters with each other, talking about what makes a good book, and designing some of our own.
Year 3 staff dressed as trolls.
Let us know what your favourite books are!
Years 3-6 competed in an athletics competition against all the schools in Havering. Years 3&4 competed on 30th and years 5&6 on the 29th. Both groups placed 2nd against 30+ schools which is a big achievement.
Digital leaders and students made a short news round video about the event, hope you enjoy it!
(Video is broken into 4 parts as it could not upload as 1 file)
On Thursday 18th May 2017, our school took part in the national Outdoor Learning Day. Year 3 researched different types of birds and their diets. We then went outside and made a bird feeder using floral wire and string. We placed cheese, chopped apples and cheerios on the wire before bending it to form a circle. Finally, we tied string to it ready to hang in our gardens.
Did you know that the study of birds is called Ornithology?
For homework this week we will be becoming ornithologists… Our job is to observe our bird feeders and we look forward to sharing facts and information on the types of birds that have visited.
On Monday 22nd May, Key Stage 2 had some special furry, scaly and scary visitors. We had the opportunity to hold, stroke and pet African animals such as a Pygmy hedgehog, a hissing cockroach, a baby meerkat and a royal python. Some children were even brave enough to wear the python around their neck! Mitch shared lots of information about each of the animals including their diet, habitat and how he came about rescuing them. WE HAD SO MUCH FUN!
On Thursday year 3 had an ancient Greeks day. The children learnt all about the ancient society such as food, warfare and the Olympics.
